Holiday cheer and the Colour of Caring

As the holidays approach and the spirit of giving fills the air, many take time to look at the growing needs in our community.

For decades, Manitoba Blue Cross has supported those in need through initiatives that bring our "Colour of Caring" motto to life.

That support stays strong through the holidays, when we run our annual Christmas Cheer Board fundraiser.

Every year, the Christmas Cheer Board delivers around 18,000 hampers filled with food and toys to individuals and families around Winnipeg. Recipients include people receiving Employment Income Assistance, low-income families, recent immigrants, pensioners and people who are unemployed.

This year, Manitoba Blue Cross employees donated 15 boxes of food and toys.

"The Christmas Cheer Board does so much good for our community, so it's encouraging to see so many employees pull together in support," says Melanie Koroluk, head of Manitoba Blue Cross's Casual for a Cause Committee. "It's critical to lend a hand whenever we can."

On top of holding donation drives, the Casual for a Cause Committee raises money for a variety of charities throughout the year. Employees donate money or non-perishable food to wear casual attire on specially marked days.

"It's one of the many ways in which Manitoba Blue Cross encourages employees to be responsible, generous members of our community," Melanie says. Manitoba Blue Cross also contributes funding to committee causes to ensure donations are even more impactful.
