A gift to Manitobans
To help our fellow Manitobans in this time of increasing inflation and high cost of living, Manitoba Blue Cross is donating $10,000 to Harvest Manitoba.
According to Harvest Manitoba, nearly 40,000 Manitobans currently access food banks each month – a number that’s doubled since 2019. And a quarter of those Manitobans have jobs – 50 per cent more than in 2021. Most startling, provincial food banks feed a record 15,000 children each month.
“The holiday season can be stressful, even on a good year, so it’s critical to help ease the burden that so many Manitobans are facing right now. This donation is our gift to Manitobans and reinforces our commitment to the community and everyone’s health and well-being,” says Benjamin Graham, president and CEO of Manitoba Blue Cross. “Thanks to those individuals and organizations across the province who have stepped up to ensure no Manitoban goes hungry this winter.”
Harvest Manitoba distributes food to 350 food banks throughout the province. To meet the ongoing need, they aim to bring in one million pounds of food every month throughout the year.
